Good ‘ole ICC! | Blitz Chess #505 | KIA vs. IM Carlo D’Amore

The Internet Chess Club (ICC) is the platform where I played tens of thousands of games as an up-and-coming player in the late ’90s and early ’00s, as well as the place I recorded my first videos for this channel! These days, browser-based sites like Chess.com and lichess are far more popular, but ICC remains a pleasant place to play. Here I face an Italian International Master in a King’s Indian Attack system I’m quite familar with.

  1. I used to think IM meant 'Internet Master'.

  2. Haha was just watching some old lichess arenas. Welcome back JB 🙂

  3. Nostalgia!

I didn't actually watch you back then but did psychocowboy (gingergm)

  4. Vikings and John bringing it back today. Good day for Minnesota

  5. Hey John, just a heads up, one of the links in your description is broken. The one for the 1950 Dubrovnik reproduction set. It looks like you copy/pasted it from a site that truncates with "…", but when you copy that, it doesn't take the whole link into account. It thinks you actually mean "…" 🙂

    Good to see you back!

  6. woah i haven't watched a john bartholomew vid since last DECADE haHAA

for real tho, i'm glad you're posting again! will you compete in titled tuesdays sometime in the future? Those videos were great and fun to watch

  7. Love your style of explaining what you see and what are the options to play. Definitely improving the way of calculating and choosing the moves. Big fan! ❤❤

  12. finally, where the hell have you been? we missed you

  13. The art you use in your thumbnails is really awesome! Very vibrant and full of personality. Whoever does that for you did a great job

  14. It's surely been a while John, I'm glad that you are active again on YouTube. Been rewatching your standard and blitz playlists with sort of a fresh look, I used to be 1000 on Chess.com when I found your channel (+-40k subs) now I am between 1600-1700. Thanks for teaching me the ways of the royal game. You're an inspiration to all of us.

  15. I too lost my virginity to online chess to icc. I'm not a good player like you but, you brought back the memory of me and Neil drinking cheap cask wine after a 12 hour shift driving a cab in Sydney on a rented desktop. One playing the other sledging texts at the opponent because neither could do both.

  16. What does the number in parentheses after the rating mean?

  17. Beginner in Chess here; Can someone explain why white did not take queen on C6 at 7:12 (after black moved the knight?
