Blitz Chess Tournament #17 (3|0)

This is a 90-minute tournament I competed in on lichess, namely a Daily SuperBlitz Arena. This tournament was played while broadcasting at . Time controls are set at 3 minutes per player.

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. 1. "My opponent has no quit. No quit! …. Okay they have some quit."

I laughed way too hard at that.

  2. Hey Jerry, I'm new to the chess world, where do you think I should start? I know what all the classes can move, but strategy I have no clue on. Can you help?

  3. Wonderful games as usual Jerry, worked like a lullaby for me. Good to see you after a long break.

  4. 44:44 Glad he missed that free rook!..and you pointed that out lol

  5. I refuse to play blitz. Too much a crap shoot.

  6. Can I just say first?! Even though I'm (I've just counted) 25th.!
Liking this before even watching the first second of it 😀

  7. I'm kind of being reminded of how lively Jerry was back at ChessCube (especially every time he's paired up with antonanton at all the games after [90]). A bit less "active", but nonetheless, always enjoyed the games.

  8. I've enjoyed this video a lot (as always). Well done, Jerry! Keep going! (sorry my poor English).

  9. This channel has been eating my life up ever since I found it. Haven't played chess for decades, but the "Beginner to Master" series is tempting me back too. Very enjoyable.

  10. Jerry,
I have all kinds of questions. First of all I've looked this up a bunch but there are no clear answers. How do you get a USCF title like you? I know you have to apply and what not. I'm specifically talking about tournaments vs online play. Unfortunately I'm 20 and got serious about chess a year ago and this is a ultimate goal in chess for me. Probably should mention I have never played a tournament in my life! Anyways any insight/advice you have would be awesome.

  11. Yay blitz! I like blitz more than bullet, you have more time to think.
    You should play 3-2 more

  12. Very good commentary. Perfect amount of excitement and description

  13. 44:40 how is Kc8 not just dropping the rook? am i missing something?

  14. Jerry needs to blitz more! It would be nice to see you go for the podium or higher placement… 🙁

  15. It's always a pleasure to see Jerry's endgame technique

  16. That last game was impressive! Defence wins Championships…even though this time it wasn't enough to get to podium land.
Keep it going Jerry! Thank you for everything you put out there 🙂

  17. Jerry do you think you'll ever get the gm title?

  18. nice to see you back on some Blitz tourn. You make all the stuff look easy when i still find it soooo difficult 🙂

  19. Jerry please play 4 way chess.

  20. Long time fan here. I really enjoy watching your videos! Im usually not one for making requests but what I would love to see is you trying out the 4-player chess variant on chess. com, please at least consider it? 🙂
    Cheers!

  21. 57:10 "My opponent has no quit man, no quit! Okay they do have some quit…"
This is why we love you Jerry.

  22. Good job man. Your fan From Iran. Lots of loveeee

  23. I've never been into chess nor understood it prior to watching you, but man, I don't know why but I love watching your blitz videos.

  24. You are Really good Jerry. You did commit some mistakes (of course as the perspective of a person that is not on the "heat" of the moment" against the Zu, and twice against Edi, but holy crap that was a fast chess

  25. Jerry, At 15:55 you have got to be kidding me not to play Bishop to b5

  26. 106:10 …it's definitely a knight capture cuz the knight was unprotected…

  27. Jerry is usually the strongest player in these Lichess tournaments–yet he often finishes second or third (even fourth, in this case).

That's largely because of the "berserking" option, which Jerry rarely uses. This feature allows weaker players to overtake him in the standings, because they berserk and he doesn't.

Jerry would probably win more tournaments on a server that doesn't have berserking, but it's hard to imagine him playing anywhere else.

  28. My heart was racing and I was so relieved when u pulled that draw

  29. That game with the rating eater was hilarious. lololol ggs, Jerry.

  30. Mouse tactics ahahah. Classic Jerry

  31. You bang on about playing good chess, but it seems it's just as good to focus on quick end moves

  32. Jerry is always cool as a cucumber. Juuuust misses the podium on the last game and literally no change in his voice
