Blitz Chess #361: Caro-Kann, Advance variation

This is a blitz chess game I played as white with time control 5|0. The opening played was the Caro-Kann, Advance variation. White opts for a modest deployment of the kingside side minor pieces, and refrains from committing the c-pawn too early. The position turns sharp as early as move 6, where black’s c5 is met with c4 thus opening the position up greatly. An even greater weight ought to be placed on development in such open positions. One of the ideas behind the c4 strike, in this game at least, was to make the positions sharp knowing that the black king would have to be in the center for longer. Would this really be something white could exploit however?

  5. Thanks Jerry. It was a nice break from the office.

  6. I've played the Caro-Kann mamy times with black. I'm not sure I've ever run into this 6. c2-c4 line, though. Interesting stuff. I don't think I would have seen that Bxb1 idea if I was black here.

  9. Wonderful teaching as always Jerry. GG!

  10. Good point on not castling once the queens are off the board — I think I would have just blindly castled in there at some point — will keep this in mind in the future.

  11. Jerry do you have a twitch account?. I would be nice to watch you live.

  12. question, why would you trade off Queens when you're white with a double bishop pair in an open game?
