Blitz Chess #358: Sicilian Defense, Pin variation

This is a blitz chess game I played as white with time control 5|0. The opening played was the Sicilian Defense, Pin variation. If you have dark square weaknesses and your dark-squared bishop isn’t around, one must be especially cautious. The Pin variation looks to damage white’s queenside structure in exchange for giving white the two bishops. Efficient development, along with keeping your eyes open for tactics in an open Sicilian are both key factors for success.

  1. How often do you stream? i want to play with yuo but i just cant catch your streams

  2. great vid,
like the way you look for ways to adjust your thinking. thanks

  3. Thank you so much for making great videos, you are the best Jerry!

  4. 2:30 how does a 2164 rated player lose his queen on move 8 to such an obvious continuation?

  5. I think in this pin variation black should take on c3 before you can play Bd2. Otherwise, what is the point of pinning the knight? Also, yes, e5 is crucial in this varation, which you already touched on in the video. That way his light squared bishop has some scope and white cannot play e5 himself.

  6. I really like this. I know it's only a short game, but seeing things go so blatantly wrong in the opening can be really instructive, especially with your insights Jerry!

  7. I am starting to teach a U500 beginner's chess class today. What are some things that I should teach them? I am thinking about teaching them about the values of each piece and about asking themselves questions when their opponent makes a move.
Such as: Why did my opponent play that move, Is it a good or a bad move, and How should I respond?
Since your the expert at teaching beginners, can you give me some advice?

  9. Very educational. Always a pleasure to watch your videos

  10. @2:53: "let's see… I think, at this point here, this is one of those… sometimes I define some moves as… mmm… it may help to categorize certain moves as half-developed or fully-developed. And this I kind of chalk up as a umm, this bishop move here as a half-developing move. Off the back-rank? Yes. But, it's really not doing a whole lot."

lol. This is the closest Jerry will ever come to saying: "terrible… simply terrible."

Let this be a lesson. In an open-sicilian, if white captures your knight on c6: always, always, ALWAYS recap with the b-pawn, put your rook on the half-open b-file, thrust d6, say thank you for the rook activity, thank you for the center, thank you for the equality. This Sicilian went wrong for black on move 7

  11. I love your videos Jerry, keep doing more! (:

  12. He folded like a deck chair in December.

  13. Love the videos Jerry! Definitely think you should review more games from the pros though!

  14. 8:55 Why not follow up c4 with c5? Black knight would presumably go to d5 but white knight would get to d6 and be super strong. If black captures the knight you white would have a past pawn.

  15. Jerry! Make more chess trap videos! They are so fun

  16. 2:01 Did anyone else think he sounded like a sassy teenage girl? Lol

  17. Could anyone tell me, i had this Pin Variation and i was afraid of Bb4xNc3 and i get this double pawn on the queenside. But could it may be a doublepawn on the queenside isn´t that bad, or why is this exchange is obviously not a option here?
